We are seeing an increased number of patients with cancer each year, even in younger animals. There are many possible causes for this, including genetics (certain breeds such as Retrievers have a high incidence of cancer,) diet, environmental pollution/toxins, low blood levels of Vitamin D, and excessive use of vaccines, drugs, and other chemicals.
Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to reduce this risk and allow for early diagnosis of cancer in your pet.
- Replace annual vaccines with blood titer testing.
- Feed a diet that does not contain by-products and chemicals.
- Use natural therapies rather than drugs and chemicals.
- Maximize your pet’s Vitamin D level based on blood testing.
- Have your pet’s blood checked for elevated levels of cancer and inflammatory markers.
- Perform an abdominal ultrasound twice yearly on breeds prone to abdominal cancer (especially larger dogs such as Retrievers, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Great Danes, & Doberman Pinchers)
